By: Denise Go Students of PHINMA – University of Pangasinan held the annual earthquake drill on September 30, 2016. Elementary, high school, senior high and college students of PHINMA – University of Pangasinan participated in the annual earthquake drill wherein they all got out of the room and gathered in the PHINMA Avenue and open field. Rescue team of PHINMA – University of Pangasinan headed by Cresente Soriano and Ronnie Jimenez says that they are prepared in case of an earthquake. Drills will never be perfect, but they are confident that if an actual earthquake occurs, the team is surely ready. They also added that orienting the community what to do during an earthquake is a very important thing. This earthquake drill in the university is conducted yearly and it is not only a program by the government but also by PHINMA. According to the operation head of Dagupan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), Bernard L. Cabison, there are 27 schools in Dagupan City and 23 schools, particularly in high school and elementary, participated in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on September 28. Cabison also added that PHINMA –University of Pangasinan requested for their assistance in holding the earthquake drill.
On July 16, 1990, a magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit Northern and Central Luzon which lasted for about a minute. Among the hardest hit areas were Baguio City, Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija, and Dagupan City. A total of 2,412 people died and the killer quake left an estimated US$369-million worth of damages.

Annually, the CITE department of the PHINMA-University of Pangasinan organized their events by bringing the newest trends in the city. Now that 'Pokemon Go' goes trending around the globe, the CITE officers come up with an idea of organizing their Komsayahan 2016 with the touch of the viral game. The event was attended by an estimated 300-400 number of students. Komsayahan is made to welcome and bond with the new member of their department; the sophomores. It also aims to showcase that IT (Information Technology) students of U-pang were not only code and computer experts but can also portray the characters that they were involved of. On Monday, 4th year Mass Communication students of PHINMA-University of Pangasinan strikes again with their pantomime performance as part of their Theatre and Arts subject. The students were divided into six groups and were given the same title, which is “Akala ko ako lang ”. Each group had a different story and theme. Some were drama, romance, comedy, and suspense. The pantomime activity was headed by Annalyn D. Tamondong. She is the instructor of the 4ABMC in the said subject and she’s also the judge for the activity. Pantomime is a method of performing using only actions and not words. Pantomime was very popular in the ancient time. It was one of the sources of entertainment during the Ancient Greek and Ancient Rome era. Eighty-eight future media practitioners representing the institution were accompanied by their instructors who were Dr. Annabelle Sim, Mr. Michael Sison, and Miss Annalyn Tamondong at ADMU to rekindle media ethics and responsibilities. With this year’s theme “Truth, Honesty and Integrity: Media Ethics and Social Responsibility”, students were reminded of their social responsibilities and to reminisce the essence of their chosen profession. Several professional journalists were invited to speak before the millennial such as Mr. Raffy Santos, Mr. Pocholo Gonzales, Ms. Mel Tiangco, and Mr. Lourd de Veyra whereas each speaker was given his or her time to answer questions from the students regarding his or her chosen field. On the second part of the program, the academe together with COMGUILD recognized this year’s media awardees among the different categories such as Best AM Radio Program and Anchor, Best FM Radio Program and DJ, Best Entertainment News Show and Host, Best Magazine Show and Host, Best Educational Program and Host, Best Lifestyle Program and Host, Best Morning Show, Best News Program, Best Male Field Reporter, Best Female Field Reporter, Most Outstanding Male News Presenter, Most Outstanding Female News Presenter, Media Persona of Excellence and Most Popular Television Personality. Also, being awarded as the Best Male Field Reporter for five years consecutively, the 2016 Hall of Fame for Best Male Field Reporter and Best News Program awards were given to Mr. Atom Araullo. By: Denise Go Four A.B. Mass Communication (4ABMC) students of PHINMA-University of Pangasinan shock Flames on September 5 at the Student's Plaza (SP). Fourth year Mass Communication students surprised the student body with their creative make-up and costume with the theme Underworld creatures. The students were not only shocked but they’re also impressed by the performance of 4ABMC since they did not only parade, but they also played their own character on stage very well. Once their character name is called, they go up on stage to introduce and act their character. It was headed by Ms. Annalyn D. Tamondong together with Ms. Michelle Pasaoa, a former Mass Communication instructor in PHINMA-Univeristy of Pangasinan. Ms. Tamondong is the 4ABMC Theater and Arts instructor and Ms. Pasaoa was their mentor during their theater workshop which was held on Saturday, September 3. The said performance of the 4ABMC students was part of their midterm exam in their Theater and Arts class with Ms. Tamondong. The surprise performance was also an early Halloween treat for the Flames. The event started with the entrance of professors and instructors from different departments and CSSSC officers followed by the message of dean Joseph Richard Mejia and the opening remarks of the CSS governor, Joemer Prado. In the said event, the awarding of winners of the recently concluded CSS playoffs took place. John Russel Flores and Nessie Ann Junio was chosen as the face of the night as one of the special awards and Rommel Garcia and Jessa Radoval was the best dress awardee. The CSS night aims to build camaraderie and rapport among the students and as well as with the faculty members of the said department. by James De VeraUPSTO Earth Titans once again proved their dominance in the College of Social Sciences Clash of the Titans 2016, capturing yet another overall title after a masterful display in this year’s tournament.
The defending champions grabbed 250 points, miles away from second placers Tactical Group Air Titans’ 195 points, third placers Mass Communication Fire Titans’ 170 points and fourth placers Political Science Water Titans’ 165 points. In the Board Games Category which consisted chess, scrabble, word factory and game of the generals, the future educators led the pack with 140 points while Mass Communication collected the second most with 100 points. Air Titans came third with 85 points while the Water Titans got the least points with 75 points. Criminology students showed their prowess in the Ball Games Category garnering 95 points, winning both Basketball Men and Women and Volleyball Men. The Earth Titans came second with 70 points, edging out the 65 points of the Water Titans, thanks to their victory in the Women’s Volleyball, while the Fire Titans settled for last place garnering only 50 points. The Earth Titans also showed their mettle in the Special Events winning both CSS Icons and CSS Scholastics. With those wins, the Student Teachers gets an additional merit of 40 points while other departments also gathered some with PolSci getting 25, MassComm collecting 20 and the Tactical Group bagging 15. Fire titans (Mass Communication students) showed-off their talents along with their "hot and spicy" aura. Flaunting their banners "UPACS United", future media practitioners boosted their support for their fellow fire titans who enthusiastically joined the department's event which made them land on the first place. by Paz Claveria and Luz SolisLast June 6, Senior High students officially dominated the vicinity of University of Pangasinan – PHINMA. More than 3,000 enrollees actively participated the first day and enthusiastically roamed around the grounds of UPang.
For the first week, the University prepared a lot of surprises, activities and programs that welcomed the youngest students within the institution. Their first week created noise not only inside the campus but also outside by offering “Libreng Sakay” for senior high students that accommodated students from their respective towns including Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Bugallon, Malasiqui, Bayambang, Manaoag, San Jacinto, Mangaldan and many more to UPang. UPang ensured that every student is well-accommodated and comfortable during the first day and week. Meanwhile, on the first day July, the institution will be conducting a Welcome Party for the students. |
