By: Denise Go Students of PHINMA – University of Pangasinan held the annual earthquake drill on September 30, 2016. Elementary, high school, senior high and college students of PHINMA – University of Pangasinan participated in the annual earthquake drill wherein they all got out of the room and gathered in the PHINMA Avenue and open field. Rescue team of PHINMA – University of Pangasinan headed by Cresente Soriano and Ronnie Jimenez says that they are prepared in case of an earthquake. Drills will never be perfect, but they are confident that if an actual earthquake occurs, the team is surely ready. They also added that orienting the community what to do during an earthquake is a very important thing. This earthquake drill in the university is conducted yearly and it is not only a program by the government but also by PHINMA. According to the operation head of Dagupan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), Bernard L. Cabison, there are 27 schools in Dagupan City and 23 schools, particularly in high school and elementary, participated in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill on September 28. Cabison also added that PHINMA –University of Pangasinan requested for their assistance in holding the earthquake drill.
On July 16, 1990, a magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit Northern and Central Luzon which lasted for about a minute. Among the hardest hit areas were Baguio City, Cabanatuan in Nueva Ecija, and Dagupan City. A total of 2,412 people died and the killer quake left an estimated US$369-million worth of damages.
