By: Allyn Villahermosa Photo Courtesy: Camille Montemayor On September 4, University of Pangasinan-PHINMA Association of Communication Students (UPACS) together with their respective advisers attended the 11th Annual Conference of Journalism and Mass Communication Students hosted by the COMGUILD Center for Journalism at the Henry Lee Irwin Theatre, Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU).
Eighty-eight future media practitioners representing the institution were accompanied by their instructors who were Dr. Annabelle Sim, Mr. Michael Sison, and Miss Annalyn Tamondong at ADMU to rekindle media ethics and responsibilities. With this year’s theme “Truth, Honesty and Integrity: Media Ethics and Social Responsibility”, students were reminded of their social responsibilities and to reminisce the essence of their chosen profession. Several professional journalists were invited to speak before the millennial such as Mr. Raffy Santos, Mr. Pocholo Gonzales, Ms. Mel Tiangco, and Mr. Lourd de Veyra whereas each speaker was given his or her time to answer questions from the students regarding his or her chosen field. On the second part of the program, the academe together with COMGUILD recognized this year’s media awardees among the different categories such as Best AM Radio Program and Anchor, Best FM Radio Program and DJ, Best Entertainment News Show and Host, Best Magazine Show and Host, Best Educational Program and Host, Best Lifestyle Program and Host, Best Morning Show, Best News Program, Best Male Field Reporter, Best Female Field Reporter, Most Outstanding Male News Presenter, Most Outstanding Female News Presenter, Media Persona of Excellence and Most Popular Television Personality. Also, being awarded as the Best Male Field Reporter for five years consecutively, the 2016 Hall of Fame for Best Male Field Reporter and Best News Program awards were given to Mr. Atom Araullo.
