by Denise GoDagupan City is known to be as the Bangus Capital of the Philippines and the City on these days is about to be proclaimed as an eco-friendly City.
Dagupan City will soon start producing diesel for public utilities just like motorboats and jeepneys, and also a biogas for household uses with a P385.4-million waste-to-fuel facility. The said project will be built this year. The open dumpsite in Bonuan will be replaced by the facility wherein it will be built on a 1.93-hectare land. According to the National Solid Waste Management Commission, Dagupan is one of the nine Pangasinan cities and towns that still operate open dumpsites. The City Mayor, Belen Fernandez said that this project will ensure that our garbage and our plastic debris will not pollute our seas. This project would need at least 30 metric tons of solid waste to produce biogas and to operate at 95-percent capacity. The facility will be put up with the help of the American firm Procter and Gamble, US Government, Asian Development Bank, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
