by Mhon NavarroHaving photos that are sharp and in focus is so important to pro photographers. There’s not just one trick that will give you the sharp photos the pros get – it’s done with a combination of things that all come together to give you a sharp quality image. To get the same sharp quality photos that pro photographers get, there are several things you need to have.
Aside from having a camera that well help you take the shot, a tripod is your best bud that will help you get a professionally sharp looking image. A tripod let you have a stable foundation that helps your camera focus without any interference that will result in distortion especially when you're taking photos in a low-light situation and in a slow shutter speed. But having a tripod is not enough. Pro photographers make use of a shutter cable release connected to a camera instead of pressing the button. Take note: When pressing the button of your camera may cause slight movements that will still affect the output of your image. A shutter cable release is simply a cable that attaches to your camera and it has a button on the end of it. Using this cable will let you take photos without using your camera’s button. No shutter cable release? No worries! Because you may use your camera’s built-in self-timer. What does this do is to let you adjust the timer for several seconds before your camera takes photos and also let you take photos without touching your camera. Locking the mirror, Canon and Nikon digital SLRs do have a feature called Exposure Delay (Nikon) and Mirror Lockup (Canon). What this does is it locks the camera’s mirror and in the up position, so when you take the shot, the mirror doesn’t move until after the exposure is made – limiting the movement of the camera. It will give you a better and sharper photo. It’s best when you use a tripod for this technique. A common technique pros usually do to assure subject’s sharpness is to zoom in. By using your camera’s zoom button it let you zoom in close and see clearly those details and check if your subject is really in focus. Do this right in the spot before or after you take the shot using your camera’s live view mode. This will let you retake the shot if you don’t feel satisfied with it. What if you don’t have a tripod or a shutter cable release? You have no choice but to hand-hold your camera? This may help you do the trick. Not all places will allow you to use a tripod and you will find yourself holding your camera to take photos and by this reason that you will surely get camera shake which you are avoiding to have. Try a trick pros use when they are in the same situation – you must switch your camera to a continuous shooting (burst) mode and hold down the camera’s button to take continuous photos instead of taking just one. Chances you may have are at least one of those dozen photos is going to be sharp and it can save you from missing it if it’s an important shot. An additional trick if you can’t use a tripod is to lean a wall or something solid to help you keep yourself steady and they look for stationary objects as a substitute for a tripod. Another trick pro used to have a steadier hand-held shot is twisting you camera strap into your hands while you take photos. It gives you extra stability and sharper shots while you hand-held your camera by wrapping your camera strap around your arm. There you have it, try to do all of this and you will surely get a better, sharper and professional looking images that pros get. Have fun clicking!
