by Nicole ArzadonJune 24, 2016 marks another special part of history at PHINMA- University of Pangasinan as they formally opened the Fidel V. Ramos Library.
In a rare opportunity, our former President Fidel V. Ramos attends the ribbon cutting of the FVR Library at PHINMA - University of Pangasinan. Mr. Ramos, the 12th President of the Philippines (1992-1998) is remembered for steadfastly promoting the principle of people empowerment and global competitiveness. The University President Dr. Chito B. Salazar, Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mr. Mark C. Macaventa, and the assistant COO Mr. Peter Gener lead the said event. Our former President Fidel V. Ramos felt greatly honored that this center was named after him because usually only dead people are honored in such a way. According to him, it was his first educational resource center and from what he had seen it’s hopefully for all young people not only in Pangasinan but around the neighbourhood as well, that means all of central and northern Luzon can make use of it. The exhibit also shared some pictures of FVR not often seen by the public, such as a picture of him with former senator Benigno Aquino Jr., as well as dealing with various leaders of the country. We can also see the different gifts bestowed upon him by foreign dignitaries. The plan for this library is to also be a site for all memorabilia of the former President. It is like his mini museum because inside are some of the things he used to own which were donated by him. It is heart warming for the students of PHINMA - University of Pangasinan to have such a great library donated to them. The construction of the three (3) story library is not yet finished. The University strives to be the first Solar Powered library in the Province. The FVR Library Inauguration ended with FVR’s speech and the traditional throwing of coins
