by James De VeraPhil Younghusband’s five goals led the Sparks’ domination over Laos Football Club, 13-2 in a lopsided game at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in the United Football League on Sunday.
Curtis Dizon’s first minute goal opened the flood gates for LMSFC as they struck six more goals at halftime with Phil striking thrice (15th, 24th and 38th minute) his brother James finding the net in the 17th minute, Castiella scoring in the 41st and a mediocre own goal from the opponent’s goal keeper John Lloyd Bastasa in 34th minute. Laos F.C.’s only goal at the first half came from Vincent Gambana in the 22nd minute as Loyola left them in the dust 7-1 after the first half. The second half saw more goals and dominance from the Sparks with Castiella scoring at 49th, J. Younghusband in the 50th, Dizon in the 56th, Phil in the 63rd and 84th, and Belgira in the 74th minute while Laos scored their second and last goal of the game in the 58th minute thanks to the effort of Iraninan striker Hamed Haji Mahdi. With this win, they now have the same 18 points as Ceres-La Salle in the league table but still trailing via goal difference 45-32 in the second spot. They will now be facing the Nomads SC on July 3, 1:45 pm in the same venue as they continue their campaign for their first league title.
