By: Joy ApostolAs of July 27, 2016, over two million Filipinos are still unregistered voters. According to the Voters Registration Act of 1996, the inability to vote in two consecutive national elections will result in the deactivation of a registered voter.
Filipinos aged 15 to 30 years old were given the chance to register for the upcoming SK Elections on October 31, but the deadline for registration was on July 30 and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) doesn’t tolerate extensions. Unregistered and deactivated voters cannot vote in the 2016 Barangay and Sangguniang Elections.
